LANCASTER, PA — The Lancaster Stormers have bolstered their roster with the signing of outfielder Dave Matthews, the team announced today. Manager Ross Peeples expressed optimism about the 27-year-old’s potential to make an impact at this level.
Matthews joins the Stormers following a stellar two-season stint in the Pioneer League, where he showcased his impressive hitting prowess with the Northern Colorado Owlz. Over 170 games, the left-handed batter recorded a .341 average, launching 41 home runs and amassing 149 RBIs. His offensive consistency was underscored by back-to-back seasons with OPS figures exceeding 1.000.
Before his success in the Pioneer League, Matthews played for the Joliet Slammers in the Frontier League for two seasons. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University, he batted .288 during his college career. While he was born in Pittsburgh, Matthews spent much of his childhood in Connecticut, adding a local connection for fans to rally behind.
“Matthews is a guy that came recommended by a scout,” said Peeples. “He’s a good guy with a little power, and we wanted to see what he could do at this level.”
With Matthews’ addition, the Stormers are aiming to strengthen their offensive lineup and continue building a competitive team for the upcoming season. Fans will be eager to see how his talent and experience translate to the Atlantic League.
