PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Cobbs Creek Foundation has announced a dynamic collaboration with Fitler Club and Strother Enterprises to provide top-tier food and beverage services at the newly revitalized Cobbs Creek Campus. The partnership will enhance the experience for visitors with offerings that include a full-service restaurant and bar, catering for private and community events, refreshment carts for golfers, and more.
This fall, the collaboration will debut The Little Horse Tavern, named after PGA pioneer Charlie Sifford, whose nickname was “Little Horse.” Located in the Lincoln Financial Center at Cobbs Creek, the tavern will feature a menu blending golf course classics with contemporary twists, including wood-fired pizzas and a signature “Cobbs” Salad. The Lincoln Financial Center itself will serve as the heart of the campus, housing a double-decker driving range, indoor and outdoor lounges, event spaces, a heritage center, and retail outlets.
“We believe the combined talents of Fitler Club and Strother Enterprises will offer an experience and venue that people in the community will be excited about and will want to come back to time and again,” said Jeff Shanahan, President of the Cobbs Creek Foundation. “Like the Cobbs Creek Foundation, Fitler Club and Strother Enterprises are catalysts for positive change in this community. Both partners share our commitment to creating a destination that is welcoming for all guests, providing golfers and non-golfers a world-class experience in an open, inclusive environment.”
The partnership’s scope extends beyond the tavern. Planned amenities include an indoor bar and outdoor lounge opening this fall, full-service concessions for the TGR Design short course by Tiger Woods, and healthy meal options for students in the Smilow | Woodland TGR Learning Lab. Strother Enterprises has already been providing food services to students enrolled in the lab’s educational programs.
“For Strother Enterprises, community is at the heart of what we do, and we see our values reflected in the Cobbs Creek project,” said Natasha Strother Lassiter, Chief Strategy Officer at Strother Enterprises. “We’re excited about this partnership with Fitler Club and Cobbs Creek Foundation to make a lasting impact in our hometown by providing inspired food service, creating jobs, and continuing our work to champion diversity and increase opportunities for residents of our city.”
The collaboration is expected to create 50 new jobs in the campus’s driving range complex and contribute to the total 150 jobs that will arise from food and beverage operations, golf programs, agronomy, hospitality, and educational roles.
Fitler Club President Jacob Smith expressed his enthusiasm for the impact this partnership will have on Philadelphia’s communities. “Fitler Club is honored to join Strother Enterprises in supporting the incredibly important work at Cobbs Creek,” Smith said. “We see this partnership as an extension of our community-minded mission, and we’re excited to engage the local community and the city at large in supporting this world-class project.”
All revenue generated from food and beverage amenities will support education and community initiatives, aligning with the Cobbs Creek Foundation’s mission to provide free, year-round programming for local youth and preserve the legacy of Cobbs Creek Golf Course.
Established in 1916, Cobbs Creek Golf Course is celebrated not only for its distinguished history as one of America’s leading public courses but also for its inclusivity. It famously served as a home course for Charlie Sifford, the first Black golfer to earn a PGA TOUR card. Today, the Cobbs Creek Foundation is spearheading a $180 million transformation to restore the 350-acre property, enrich the community experience, and promote environmental sustainability.
This revitalization represents a powerful synthesis of historic preservation, education, and recreational enhancement for the city of Philadelphia and its residents.
