PHILADELPHIA, PA — Little Susie’s Coffee & Pies is rolling out a limited-edition Valentine’s Day treat that blends romance and indulgence in a handheld form: a chocolate-covered strawberry hand pie available by pre-order only this week.
The bakery announced the specialty pie will sell for $7 apiece and features sweetened strawberries baked into a buttery crust, dipped in Valrhona Strawberry Inspiration chocolate, and finished with mini dark chocolate chips. Pre-orders close Wednesday, February 11, with pick-up scheduled from Thursday, February 12, through Sunday, February 15.
“They are stunning. We already have several dozen sold,” said Dan Martino, founder of Little Susie’s Coffee & Pies. He said the process begins with whole strawberries that are chopped, reduced, baked into the crust, cooled, and then dipped by hand in melted Valrhona chocolate.
The Valentine’s Day offering comes as the Philadelphia-based pie shop continues to expand its reputation for creative sweet and savory pastries. Little Susie’s locations operate seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., with shops in North Philadelphia at Lehigh Avenue and Belgrade Street, Old City at 2nd and Chestnut Streets, South Philadelphia at Chadwick and Moore Streets, and Kensington at Front and Montgomery Streets.
In addition to the seasonal hand pies, the menu includes classic and inventive options such as apple pie, blueberry lemon pie, glazed cherry pie, chicken pot pie, pork roll and cheese pie, mushroom and Swiss pie, and potato cheddar pie.
