Cecil College Transfer Students Outperform State Peers in Academic Success

Cecil College

NORTH EAST, MD — Cecil College has emerged as a top performer among Maryland’s community colleges, with new data showing its transfer students are excelling academically at four-year institutions.

According to the Maryland Higher Education Commission’s (MHEC) 2025 Performance Accountability Transfer Measurements, 96.4% of Cecil College students who transferred to a four-year Maryland public university during the 2023–2024 academic year maintained a GPA of 2.0 or higher. This places the college well above the state average of 89.4% and ranks it second among Maryland community colleges for post-transfer academic achievement.

Even before transferring, Cecil students were setting a high academic bar. The cohort achieved an average cumulative GPA of 3.49—the highest of any Maryland community college—significantly exceeding the statewide average of 3.05. This achievement underscores Cecil’s role in preparing students for long-term academic success.

“These results position Cecil College as a top choice for students planning to transfer,” the report noted, highlighting that the rankings are based on transfer students who earned at least 12 credits prior to their transition and were enrolled at a Maryland public four-year institution during the Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 semesters.

As the state continues to monitor transfer outcomes aligned with Maryland’s 2025 completion goals, Cecil College stands out as a leader in academic preparation, transfer readiness, and student achievement.
