PHILADELPHIA, PA — The William Way LGBT Community Center will host A Secret World, a musical cabaret by Cabaret Vérité, on Sunday, October 19, at 4 p.m. The performance will transport audiences through the sounds and stories of the 1970s and 1980s, reflecting the challenges and triumphs that shaped LGBTQ history.

The production brings together Temple University undergraduates Jacquee Paul and Myles Wilson with veteran performers John Whyte and Tom Wilson Weinberg, whose collaboration spans more than five decades. Through a blend of original and era-inspired songs, the cabaret captures the spirit of resilience and the evolution of LGBTQ identity during a time of secrecy and struggle.

Highlights include “A Secret World,” exploring the hidden lives of LGBTQ individuals before legal protections were established; “Breaking the Penal Code,” which recalls discriminatory laws that once targeted gay and lesbian travelers; and “We Went to Washington,” a musical reflection on the historic marches for equality in the nation’s capital.

Tickets will be available at the door for $25 general admission and $20 for students. All proceeds will support the William Way LGBT Community Center’s ongoing programs and community initiatives.

Located at 1315 Spruce Street in Philadelphia, the Center continues to serve as a cultural and historical hub for the region’s LGBTQ community—making A Secret World both a tribute to the past and a reminder of how far the community has come.
