NEWTOWN, PA — A group of talented young dancers from The Dance Ground in Bucks County is set to shine on one of the nation’s most prestigious stages. The dance company, made up of 23 performers aged 11 to 18, has been invited to perform at the 2025 Chita Rivera Awards, taking place on May 19 at the NYU Skirball Center in New York City.
The Chita Rivera Awards celebrate excellence in dance and choreography on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in film, providing a platform to honor the achievements of professionals and emerging talents. This year’s event will present its Lifetime Achievement Award to Tony winner Ben Vereen, recognizing his significant contributions to theater and dance.
The Dance Ground’s performance will feature an original piece choreographed by André Jovovich and Priscilla Garner, the school’s co-artistic directors. Known for their innovative storytelling and visual artistry, the sibling duo has created a work that showcases the dancers’ exceptional talent, passion, and discipline.
Beyond their artistic accomplishments, these young performers have made a broader impact by raising $30,000 for the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation. The nonprofit provides scholarships to young dancers pursuing higher education, having fostered the careers of luminaries like Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose and Emmy Award-winning Derek Hough.
“This is a full-circle moment,” said Liz Jovovich, Managing Director of The Dance Ground. “To see our dancers not only take the stage at one of the most important nights in dance but also raise $30,000 for the NYCDA Foundation… is a testament to their talent, commitment, and heart. They aren’t just dancing for themselves. They’re dancing for every kid who dares to dream big in this art form.”
With their participation in the Chita Rivera Awards, The Dance Ground’s dancers are not just representing Bucks County but also celebrating the future of American dance on one of the industry’s grandest stages.
