LANCASTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a brief traffic stoppage as part of the ongoing bridge rehabilitation project on Route 741 (Millersville Road) in Lancaster County. The project encompasses the section of the road spanning the Conestoga River, situated between Rice Road in Lancaster Township and the Circle M Campground entrance in Pequea Township.
Weather permitting, on Monday, June 2, contractors will lower the bridge onto the eastern abutment, requiring a complete halt to traffic for up to 15 minutes. This stoppage is anticipated to occur sometime between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM, with delays expected during this period. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may delay the planned work, with Tuesday, June 3, and Wednesday, June 4, set as backup dates.
The $3.39 million project, contracted to JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, involves extensive rehabilitation of the bridge, including concrete repairs to the substructure and superstructure, deck resurfacing, barrier coating, guiderail upgrades, and expansion dam replacements.
Daytime temporary lane restrictions under flagging will remain in effect throughout the project. Later this year, a detour of up to 56 days will facilitate additional deck work, with PennDOT set to issue an updated schedule closer to implementation.
The project is scheduled for completion by September 19, 2025. Motorists are urged to plan for potential delays during the stoppages and approach the area cautiously to ensure safety for both workers and travelers.
