Brief Shutdowns Planned on U.S. 422 for Utility Work Sunday Morning

Road work - traffic alert

UPPER MERION TWP, PA — PennDOT is warning motorists to expect short but complete traffic stoppages on a busy stretch of U.S. 422 next Sunday morning as crews perform utility improvements in Upper Merion and West Norriton townships.

According to PennDOT, PBI Fiber, LLC. will conduct utility construction on both eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 in Montgomery County. Weather permitting, two full stoppages, each lasting approximately 10 minutes, are scheduled between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM on Sunday, February 8, between the Route 363 (Trooper Road) and Route 23 (North Gulph Road) interchanges.

During the stoppages, traffic in both directions will be halted, a move PennDOT said is necessary to safely complete the work. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra travel time, as backups and delays are expected to build quickly along the corridor.

The utility improvements will be performed under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit, and all activities are dependent on weather conditions.

With even brief closures capable of triggering widespread congestion on U.S. 422, drivers are urged to stay alert and plan ahead by visiting the MyChesCo Traffic Center at https://www.mychesco.com/traffic/, where real-time updates, traffic alerts, and regional conditions are tracked to help motorists avoid unexpected delays.
