Bridge Repairs Scheduled on Route 222 in Lancaster County This Weekend

LANCASTER, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that bridge slab repairs will take place this weekend on the Route 222 bridge over Church Street (Route 1051) in East Cocalico Township, Lancaster County.

Work is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM on Friday, August 22, and continue through 6:00 AM on Monday, August 25, weather permitting. During this period, lane restrictions will be in place in both directions of Route 222, stretching from the Mohler Church Road overpass in Ephrata Township to Col. Howard Boulevard in East Cocalico Township. An 11-foot width restriction will also apply throughout the work zone.

PennDOT is urging motorists to remain alert and drive cautiously through the construction area.

The project is part of a broader pavement preservation effort on Route 222, covering the section from Mohler Church Road to Col. Howard Boulevard. Improvements include resurfacing, full-width milling, base repair, concrete patching, guide rail upgrades, line painting, and new signage. Additionally, crews will construct a new entrance to the northbound Route 222 weigh station between the Lancaster County line and the Adamstown/Knauers Exit in Berks County.

The contract, valued at $7.66 million, is being carried out by New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc., of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania. All work is expected to be completed by February 2, 2026.
