PHILADELPHIA, PA — Braskem (B3: BRKM3, BRKM5, and BRKM6; NYSE: BAK; LATIBEX: XBRK) celebrates the 15th anniversary of its groundbreaking I’m green™ bio-based portfolio, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and innovation in sustainable plastics and chemicals.
To mark this milestone, Braskem announced a 37% increase in production capacity at its green ethylene unit in Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The facility now produces 275,000 tons of green ethylene annually, up from the initial capacity of 200,000 tons when operations began in 2010. Green ethylene, a key component in Braskem’s bio-based polyethylene, retains the quality and versatility of fossil-based alternatives while capturing approximately two tons of carbon dioxide per ton produced. This expansion enables the capture of an estimated 159,000 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to emissions from 12,000 U.S. citizens over the same period.
“In 2025, as we celebrate the anniversary of our pioneering I’m green™ bio-based brand, we reflect on the remarkable journey we’ve undertaken in advancing sustainable plastics and chemicals,” said Walmir Soller, Vice President for North America, Europe, and Asia – NAMEA and CEO of Braskem BV. “This milestone is not just a testament to our innovation and leadership in biopolymers but also a celebration of our commitment to a sustainable future. The expansion of our bio-ethylene unit in 2023 was a significant step forward in our mission to support the industry and brand owners on the sustainability journey, and it brings us closer to our goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050. We are proud of what we’ve achieved and are excited about the future possibilities.”
Since the launch of the I’m green™ portfolio, Braskem has remained a pioneer in bio-based materials, helping clients across industries achieve sustainability goals. This latest development underscores the company’s long-term vision of carbon neutrality by 2050 while supporting global efforts to transition to greener, more sustainable production methods.
Braskem’s investment in expanding bio-polymer production highlights its role as a leader in sustainability-focused innovation, providing scalable solutions to reduce emissions and create a positive impact on the environment.
