NORRISTOWN, PA — BFree Foods announced the launch of “Pitas for the People,” a nationwide initiative to donate 10,000 gluten-free pitas to restaurants, workplaces, and community programs across the United States.
The company said the program is intended to expand access to gluten-free food options for individuals with dietary restrictions.
BFree said the donated products will be distributed to organizations that serve shared meals, including restaurants, corporate workplaces, and community programs.
Chief Executive Officer Alex Murphy said the initiative aims to address the lack of safe menu options available to many gluten-free consumers.
“Food is the universal language of connection, yet millions of gluten-free consumers are still forced to ‘sit out’ of the conversation because of a lack of safe options,” Murphy said.
Restaurants participating in the program may use the donated pitas to test or expand allergen-friendly menu items without sourcing specialty suppliers, according to the company.
Workplaces can use the products to make catered meals more inclusive for employees, while community organizations may distribute them through food pantries and local nutrition initiatives.
Organizations interested in receiving the products can submit nominations through an online application at https://kickofflabs.com/giveaway/us-pita-people.
Applications will remain open until the company distributes the full allotment of 10,000 pitas.
BFree said its gluten-free pita products are designed for individuals with dietary restrictions including celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, wheat allergies, and certain autoimmune conditions.
