Barrier Removal on I-95 North Signals Major Traffic Shift in Northeast Philly

Traffic Advisory

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Motorists on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia should brace for delays Wednesday as crews remove barriers ahead of a major traffic shift tied to the massive I-95 reconstruction project.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said barrier removal work will take place Wednesday, February 11, on northbound I-95 as part of the $355.3 million I-95/BR3 project to widen and rebuild the interstate between Wheatsheaf Lane and just north of Margaret Street.

From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, a lane closure will be in effect on northbound I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue and Cottman Avenue interchanges. PennDOT said the operation is necessary to prepare for an upcoming traffic shift that will move northbound vehicles onto the median and southbound lanes so full reconstruction of the northbound side can begin.

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time through the corridor, as significant backups and congestion are expected during the work window. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and may change if conditions deteriorate.
