Avantor Unveils Next-Gen Bioprocessing Tools to Boost Efficiency and Safety

Avantor

RADNOR, PAAvantor, Inc. (NYSE: AVTR) has introduced a new line of pre-engineered PUPSIT (pre-use, post-sterilization integrity testing) assemblies and a comprehensive sterile sampling suite, designed to help biopharmaceutical manufacturers improve efficiency, reduce contamination risk, and accelerate in-process decision-making.

The new offerings give biomanufacturers greater flexibility in how they configure and scale production. The sterile sampling suite features modular, multi-sample designs that minimize line breaks and operator intervention—two key contributors to contamination. Standardized components and documentation simplify qualification and allow manufacturers to replicate processes across multiple sites with greater consistency.

Avantor’s sterile sampling portfolio includes four systems tailored to specific bioprocessing needs:

  • NBSS (Needle-Based Sampling System): Supports closed, aseptic sampling from stainless-steel vessels via needle interface.
  • NFSS (Needle-Free Sampling System): Enhances operator safety and convenience while maintaining sampling accuracy.
  • EVSS (Exact Volume Sampling System): Enables highly precise small-volume sampling for cell and gene therapy applications.
  • OmniTop: Offers weld-on or aseptic connection options for routine sampling with flexible chamber configurations.

The company’s pre-engineered PUPSIT assemblies are built to integrate with a range of filtration systems, ensuring compliance while minimizing setup time and variability. By maintaining closed flow paths and standardizing integrity testing after sterilization, these assemblies streamline qualification and reduce the need for custom engineering.

“Biopharmaceutical manufacturers need solutions that are configurable, easy to implement, and consistently perform across scales,” said Benoit Gourdier, Executive Vice President of Bioscience Production at Avantor. “The new products we highlighted at CPHI meet these core needs — from established biologics to emerging advanced therapies — helping customers strengthen process control and bring therapies to patients with greater reliability and speed.”

Together, the PUPSIT assemblies and sterile sampling suite create a fully closed, standardized pathway from vessel to filter to sample. Avantor’s latest innovations aim to help manufacturers enhance product quality, ensure regulatory compliance, and accelerate commercialization across both single-use and hybrid bioprocessing facilities.
