GLENSIDE, PA — Arcadia University has been named a Gilman Program 25th Anniversary Top Producing Institution by the U.S. Department of State, recognizing the school’s record of sending students abroad through the federally funded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship program.
The designation places Arcadia among the top institutions in the Small Colleges and Universities category over the program’s 25-year history.
The Gilman Program provides merit-based scholarships to undergraduate students with financial need to study or intern abroad for academic credit. It is funded by the U.S. government and administered by the Institute of International Education.
Arcadia said 81 of its students have received Gilman scholarships since the program began in 2001.
Scott Terry, director of global engagement and strategic enrollment at Arcadia, said the program has expanded access to international study opportunities for students with limited financial resources.
“Arcadia’s global mission aligns perfectly with that of the Gilman Program, and we are grateful for its support in making study abroad opportunities more accessible to Arcadia students with limited financial means,” Terry said.
Anjali Dyer, a senior psychology major and Gilman scholar, studied abroad at the Arcadia Granada Center in Spain.
“The Gilman Scholarship let me live out my childhood fantasy of backpacking through Europe while studying abroad,” Dyer said, adding that she now supports other students with essay preparation and travel planning.
Since its inception, the Gilman Program has supported more than 50,000 students from all U.S. states and territories, enabling study or internships in more than 170 countries, according to program data.
