DOUGLASSVILLE, PAAmerican Crane & Equipment Corporation said its employees packaged and donated more than 27,000 meals during the company’s annual Employee Appreciation Day, transforming a workplace celebration into a large-scale effort to combat food insecurity in Berks and Schuylkill counties.

The initiative, known internally as GRIT Day, was held the day before Thanksgiving and organized in partnership with Helping Harvest. Employees worked in teams to package macaroni and cheese meals that will be distributed through Helping Harvest’s network of more than 350 community partners serving families, children, and seniors.

Company officials said the effort is part of American Crane’s Hoist Up! Outreach Initiative, which focuses on hands-on community support. The event was led by Stephanie Delibertis, executive director of outreach and development, who coordinated the logistics and volunteer engagement.

The meals are expected to provide both immediate nutritional support and seasonal relief during a time of heightened need. Food insecurity remains a persistent issue in the region, particularly during the holiday period when demand for assistance typically rises.

“This initiative is a powerful reflection of our values and our ongoing commitment to making a positive difference in the communities we live in,” said Jeff Griesemer, president of American Crane. He credited employee participation as the driving force behind the scale of the donation.

American Crane said GRIT Day also serves as a team-building exercise, reinforcing a company culture centered on service and shared purpose. By combining employee recognition with community impact, the company aims to embed civic engagement into its broader business identity.

Helping Harvest will distribute the meals in the coming weeks, directing them to households across its service area as part of ongoing hunger relief efforts.
