Alliance for Decision Education Appoints Eric Horvitz to Board

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Alliance for Decision Education has appointed Eric Horvitz, chief scientific officer of Microsoft, to its board of directors, the nonprofit announced.

The organization said Horvitz, a physician and computer scientist, is known for his work in artificial intelligence, including research on reasoning and decision-making under uncertainty.

At Microsoft, Horvitz leads initiatives focused on science and technology, including artificial intelligence, biosciences and healthcare. His work has contributed to the development of AI systems used in healthcare, transportation, ecommerce, operating systems and aerospace, according to the Alliance.

“We are honored to welcome Eric Horvitz to our Board of Directors,” Executive Director David Samuelson said, adding that Horvitz’s experience in decision analysis and AI aligns with the group’s mission to integrate decision-making skills into K-12 education.

Horvitz said decision-making skills are critical in a rapidly changing technological environment. “I’m excited to support the Alliance’s efforts to equip young people with strong decision skills,” he said.

The Alliance for Decision Education is a national nonprofit focused on promoting decision-making education in schools. The group partners with educators, academic and business leaders, families and community members to advocate for the inclusion of decision education in classrooms nationwide.
