PHILADELPHIA & MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — More than $4.19 million in state grant funding is heading to neighborhoods across Pennsylvania’s 4th Senate District, backing a wide range of projects from green space upgrades to firehouse renovations and expanded health care access, Sen. Art Haywood announced.

The funding, awarded to projects spanning Montgomery County and Philadelphia, is aimed at strengthening community infrastructure, supporting education and workforce development, improving public safety, and expanding services for vulnerable populations.

A portion of the money is dedicated to environmental and green space improvements through Pennsylvania Community and Economic Development grants focused on climate sustainability. Those awards include $100,000 for stormwater improvements at Legacy Park in Jenkintown, $63,070 for Cheltenham Township’s Parkview Park Greenway Master Plan, and smaller grants supporting greenspace conversions and new trails in Germantown, Mt. Airy, and at Manor College. Combined, those projects account for $272,291 in green space investment.

The bulk of the funding flows through the state’s Local Share Account program, totaling more than $3.9 million. Major allocations include $900,000 for renovations at the La Mott Community Center, $850,000 for an addition and renovation at the La Mott Fire Company, and $737,720 to renovate Covenant House Pennsylvania’s Safe Haven Shelter.

Higher education and health care initiatives also feature prominently. Penn State Abington received $248,500 to expand its Cybersecurity Analytics Lab, while Manor College secured $625,123 for a Dental Health Center expansion. Chestnut Hill Hospital Community Health was awarded $400,000 for women’s health and mammography equipment, and Why Not Prosper received $100,000 for a rolling engagement van to support reentry services.

“These projects reflect what it looks like to govern with dignity,” Haywood said in a statement, pointing to investments that support students entering the workforce, families and seniors seeking health care, first responders, and organizations delivering services directly in the community.

Haywood credited Governor Josh Shapiro, local officials, and community partners for working together to secure the funding and advance projects intended to reflect the district’s needs and priorities.
