LANCASTER, PA — The U.S. Postal Service is making a fresh bid to bolster its workforce, urging job seekers across Pennsylvania to explore a wide range of career paths ahead of a local hiring event on Friday, December 19th,  in Lancaster.

While most Americans associate USPS with letter carriers and clerks, the agency emphasized this week that more than 2,000 distinct job titles exist within the Postal Service once employees enter career status. Those opportunities span workforce planning, IT, communications, marketing, human resources, legal services, logistics, sales, inspection services, processing and distribution, and retail and delivery.

“Every month is the best month to hire,” the agency said in announcing the push, noting that USPS continues to post openings throughout the year for all 50 states at usps.com/careers.

Officials underscored financial stability, paid leave, health coverage, flexible schedules, and three retirement income streams — a Postal annuity, Social Security, and the federal Thrift Savings Plan — as key reasons candidates consider USPS one of the most trusted federal employers.

To support applicants, the Postal Service will host a job fair on Friday, December 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lancaster Post Office, 1400 Harrisburg Pike. USPS personnel will be on-site to answer questions about openings, starting pay, and benefits.

Applications are accepted online only, and candidates must be at least 18, pass a background check and drug screening, and be available to work weekends and holidays. Job postings are updated frequently, officials said, urging applicants to check listings often for new opportunities.
