HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity is encouraging residents to search for unclaimed property ahead of Easter, saying more than $17 million is tied to names associated with the holiday.
The Treasury Department said individuals, businesses, and organizations with names that include terms such as “Flowers,” “Bunny,” “Hop,” “Egg,” “Hunt,” “Basket,” “Chocolate,” and “Candy” may have unclaimed funds or assets waiting to be returned.
“Finding unclaimed property that is owed to you will make you hop for joy,” Garrity said, noting that one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property.
Since taking office in 2021, Garrity has returned more than $1 billion in unclaimed property and is working to return more than $5 billion currently held by the Treasury.
Officials said the average claim is valued at more than $1,000.
Unclaimed property includes both intangible and tangible assets. Intangible items can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, and stocks, while tangible property may include items such as jewelry, collectible coins, and savings bonds.
Residents can search for unclaimed property through the state’s database at https://patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property.
