The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful are seeking applicants for the Young Ambassadors of Pennsylvania program, a yearlong initiative focused on environmental stewardship and leadership development.
Program Overview
The program is designed to give students experience working on environmental issues such as litter prevention, waste management, and stream restoration, while also building leadership and problem-solving skills.
Participants will receive training from professionals in state government, private industry, media, and nonprofit organizations.
Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful will provide education on topics including how litter affects roadways, recycling practices, civic engagement, and how public policy shapes environmental outcomes.
Responsibilities and Requirements
Selected students will serve from September 2026 through May 2027.
Program requirements include attending six mandatory virtual training sessions, conducting a community assessment, and organizing a local cleanup event as part of the Pick Up Pennsylvania initiative.
Participants must also complete a community education project to raise awareness about environmental issues.
Additional Opportunities
Some students will be selected for job shadowing experiences through partnerships with organizations including Columbia Gas, part of the NiSource Charitable Foundation, and Dow.
Organizers said the program aims to connect students with real-world experience while encouraging long-term involvement in environmental protection.
How to Apply
Applications are open from April 1 through June 10 and will be reviewed through a competitive selection process.
