HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania residents can now view performance evaluations for local agencies that provide services to older adults, following a new transparency effort by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
What This Means for You
- Performance reviews for local aging agencies are now publicly available online.
- The evaluations measure how agencies serve older adults through key programs and services.
- Twenty agencies covering 30 Pennsylvania counties have published results so far.
The Department of Aging announced this past week that it has posted performance results for two additional Area Agencies on Aging, bringing the total number of agencies with publicly available evaluations to 20.
Area Agencies on Aging are regional organizations that coordinate services for older adults, including protective services, caregiver assistance, and programs that help seniors remain in their homes.
Performance results can be viewed on the department’s website at https://www.pa.gov/agencies/aging/aaa-monitoring.
New Monitoring System
The results are part of the Department of Aging’s Comprehensive Aging Performance Evaluation, known as CAPE.
Under the CAPE system, each agency is evaluated through a single review that measures performance across multiple programs, including protective services, the OPTIONS program, and the Caregiver Support Program.
Previously, monitoring often occurred through multiple visits focused on individual programs.
Officials said the updated system is intended to provide a more complete assessment of how agencies serve older adults.
“CAPE represents a historic improvement of our monitoring process to ensure we are delivering quality services to older adults in every community in PA,” said Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich.
“With the public now able to view CAPE results on our website, we’re making these monitoring results more transparent than ever before,” Kavulich added.
Counties Included in Current Results
The Department of Aging said the most recent evaluations include the Area Agencies on Aging serving Adams and Monroe counties.
Those agencies join 18 others whose results have already been published, covering services in 30 counties.
The counties currently included in the published evaluations are Adams, Armstrong, Beaver, Blair, Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Cameron, Elk, McKean, Centre, Chester, Clarion, Delaware, Huntingdon, Bedford, Fulton, Lebanon, Lehigh, Mifflin, Juniata, Monroe, Northampton, Perry, Venango, Washington, Fayette, Greene, and York.
Officials said the department plans to continue releasing performance results for additional agencies as evaluations are completed.
