GREENCASTLE, PA — Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Rep. Chad Reichard announced this week that $16,559.17 in unclaimed property has been returned to Rescue Hose Company No. 1, a fire and emergency services provider in Franklin County.

The funds, which include three individual properties ranging from $100 to $16,359.71, date from 2007 through 2021 and consist of a credit balance and uncashed checks, according to the announcement.

Garrity said the return is part of the state’s ongoing effort to reconnect individuals and organizations with unclaimed assets held by the Treasury.

“Every unclaimed property return makes a difference, and I’m proud to return more than $16,000 to Rescue Hose Company to support the vital services they provide,” Garrity said.

William Hull, president of Rescue Hose Company, said the organization was not aware the funds were owed.

“The Rescue Hose Company was unaware these funds were due to the company, and we are grateful that we were advised of such,” Hull said. “The returned funds will help us continue to serve and protect the residents of Greencastle and Antrim Township.”

Reichard said the return highlights how frequently unclaimed property is discovered.

“This shows that countless Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property, usually money, they didn’t know about,” Reichard said, encouraging residents to check for potential claims.

Rescue Hose Company provides fire protection, rescue, and emergency medical services to Greencastle, Antrim Township, and surrounding communities.

The Treasury said unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, stocks, and items from safe deposit boxes such as jewelry or coins.

Since 2021, the Treasury has returned more than $1 billion in unclaimed property, with more than $5 billion still awaiting claims.

State officials said one in ten Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property, with the average claim exceeding $1,000. Residents can search for unclaimed property at patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property.
