HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Dave Sunday is cautioning Pennsylvanians to remain vigilant against potential scams tied to donation drives for the families of three Northern York County Regional Police officers killed last week and two others injured.

Sunday’s Office of Attorney General Bureau of Consumer Protection said scammers often exploit high-profile tragedies to deceive well-meaning donors. The bureau is urging the public to take steps to confirm the legitimacy of fundraising efforts before contributing.

Authorities recommend checking the official Northern York County Regional Police Department and York County Sheriff’s Office Facebook pages for accurate information on verified donation channels. Donors are also advised to confirm whether law enforcement associations or local Fraternal Order of Police lodges have endorsed particular fundraising efforts.

“Pennsylvanians are caring and generous people always willing to help in the wake of tragedy,” Sunday said. “With so many people seeking ways to help those affected by the horrifying shooting last week in York County, it is important to ensure those charitable donations reach those who need them.”

Residents who believe they have been targeted or victimized by a scam are encouraged to file a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Protection at www.attorneygeneral.gov or by calling 717-787-3391.
