PHILADELPHIA, PA — PECO, in collaboration with Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, recently unveiled a $10 million customer relief fund aimed at helping low- and moderate-income families cope with rising summer energy costs.
Funded by PECO’s parent company, Exelon, the program will provide one-time $500 grants to eligible households beginning August 4. The initiative targets those often left out of traditional assistance programs—working families earning too much to qualify for public aid but not enough to comfortably absorb inflationary pressures, including spiking utility bills.
PECO’s new Customer Relief Fund comes at a time when consumers across the region are facing sharp increases in the cost of living. According to the company, this fund is part of a broader effort to provide near-term support while continuing to work on systemic energy affordability issues in the state.
The grants will be administered by United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, a nonprofit with longstanding experience in directing resources to communities in need. Applications will be accepted online, with eligibility determined through United Way’s established review process.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a joint event at PA CareerLink Montgomery County, a regional employment support center that assists residents with job placement, training, and access to essential services.
With the launch of this fund, PECO joins a growing number of utilities and public-private partnerships looking for proactive ways to ease the financial burden on ratepayers as energy prices continue to climb.
