HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue is sending staff to senior and community centers across nearly 20 counties to provide free, in-person help with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, state income tax returns, and the new Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit.
What This Means for You
- Eligible seniors, widows and widowers, and people with disabilities can receive help filing for property tax or rent rebates.
- Working residents who qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit may also qualify for a new state credit worth up to $805.
- Assistance is available by appointment at community locations and district offices before the April 15, 2026 filing deadline.
Expanded Outreach Across Counties
Department representatives are scheduled to host filing assistance events in counties including Allegheny, Bradford, Carbon, Clarion, Dauphin, Delaware, Indiana, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lawrence, Lehigh, Lycoming, Montgomery, Northampton, Northumberland, Philadelphia, Schuylkill, Tioga, and Wayne.
A full schedule is posted on the department’s website and is updated regularly. Residents are encouraged to call ahead to confirm availability and schedule appointments.
“Our team has had a lot of success in recent years traveling to communities across Pennsylvania and meeting people where they are to provide in-person support,” Revenue Secretary Pat Browne said.
Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program
The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program provides financial relief to eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and people with disabilities age 18 and older.
Applicants complete Form PA-1000 to apply. Assistance is available at Department of Revenue district offices, Area Agencies on Aging, and certain legislative offices.
Last year, more than 512,000 rebates totaling $314 million were distributed. Since the program’s recent expansion, approximately 165,000 first-time filers have received rebates.
Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit
The Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, or WPTC, was created in the 2025-26 state budget. It is modeled after the federal Earned Income Tax Credit, a refundable federal tax credit for low- and moderate-income workers.
Anyone eligible for the federal EITC automatically qualifies for the WPTC. The state credit equals 10 percent of the federal credit and may provide up to $805 per taxpayer, depending on income and number of dependents.
State officials estimate the WPTC will deliver approximately $193 million in relief to 940,000 working Pennsylvanians this tax season.
Residents can check eligibility and use an online calculator at pa.gov/wptc.
What to Bring
Applicants seeking assistance should bring required documentation.
For Property Tax/Rent Rebate applications, residents should review eligibility guidelines in advance.
For Pennsylvania Personal Income Tax Returns, taxpayers should bring income statements, a photo ID, and Social Security cards for themselves and their dependents.
Anyone applying for the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit must bring a completed federal Form 1040. Department staff will use the federal return to calculate the state credit amount.
All taxpayers who received more than $33 in total gross taxable income in calendar year 2025 must file a Pennsylvania personal income tax return by midnight Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
