HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced that more than $225,000 in unclaimed property was returned to Pennsylvanians during the 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show, putting unexpected cash back into the hands of families, farmers, small businesses, and visitors from across the state.
Treasury officials said the Farm Show provided a rare opportunity to connect directly with thousands of residents in one place, allowing staff to reunite people with uncashed checks, dormant bank accounts, insurance proceeds, and other forgotten financial assets.
“The Farm Show gave us a unique chance to meet so many incredible farmers and families who help put food on the table for people across the state – and the country. While folks were enjoying the very best of Pennsylvania agriculture, our team was hard at work helping them find money they didn’t realize was missing,” Garrity said.
Among the claims paid out during the event, $12,110 was returned to the Pennsylvania Livestock Association. Organization leaders said the funds will be reinvested in youth education and agricultural development programs.
“This money will be put to good use to enhance our youth programs and encourage more young Pennsylvanians to learn the ins and outs of the livestock industry and support our future agriculture leaders. The PA Livestock Association is grateful for Treasurer Garrity and her team for their efforts to return this money to our organization,” said Mike Firestine, the association’s director and chairman of the Youth Committee.
Treasury staff assisted both attendees and vendors throughout the Farm Show, helping them search the state’s unclaimed property database on the spot. Garrity said the effort highlighted how widespread unclaimed property is across the commonwealth.
“It didn’t matter if someone was selling food, showing livestock, or visiting with family, every claim returned meant real dollars going back to Pennsylvanians,” she said.
The Pennsylvania Treasury currently safeguards more than $5 billion in unclaimed property owed to more than one in ten residents statewide. Officials said the average claim exceeds $1,000.
