HARRISBURG, PA — State Reps. Melissa Shusterman and Tina Davis honored Bristol resident Mae Krier on Tuesday as Pennsylvania marked “Rosie the Riveter Day,” recognizing her 100th birthday and her advocacy for women who supported the nation during World War II.
The recognition coincided with House Resolution 385, which designated March 21, 2026, as “Rosie the Riveter Day” in Pennsylvania, commemorating women who entered the workforce during the war to fill roles in manufacturing, industry, and military support.
During World War II, women across Pennsylvania worked in shipbuilding at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, steel production in the Mon Valley, weapons manufacturing in York, truck assembly in Allentown, aircraft repair in Middletown, and ammunition processing at the Letterkenny Ordnance Depot, according to lawmakers.
Shusterman said the designation highlights the historical contributions of women like Krier. “Mae Krier’s tireless advocacy for the Rosies to receive the accolades they deserve has always been inspiring to me,” she said.
Davis, who represents Bristol Borough and Bristol Township, said Krier’s recognition reflects both her wartime contributions and her later efforts to secure acknowledgment for the generation.
“Mae Krier represents the very best of this generation—courageous, determined, and deeply patriotic,” Davis said, adding that her advocacy helped bring national recognition to the group.
“Rosie the Riveter” became a national symbol of women’s contributions to the war effort. In 2017, Congress designated March 21 as National Rosie the Riveter Day, and in 2020 awarded the group the Congressional Gold Medal.
Krier accepted the Congressional Gold Medal in April 2024 on behalf of the women who contributed to the war effort, according to the lawmakers.
Davis said the contributions of Pennsylvania women during the war had a lasting impact. “Their work changed the course of history and continues to inspire generations of women today,” she said.
Shusterman represents the 157th Legislative District in Chester County, while Davis represents the 141st Legislative District in Bucks County.
