HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is urging consumers to take swift action following the sudden shutdown of Iron Hill Brewery, advising those left with unused gift cards to dispute their purchases with credit card companies and file complaints with the state’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
The once-popular brewpub chain abruptly closed all restaurant locations before filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in New Jersey, leaving customers and loyalty program members scrambling for answers.
“The sudden closure of this popular chain of restaurants has left Pennsylvanians with questions and concerns about gift cards and rewards balances,” Sunday said. “We will continue to track developments in this matter on behalf of impacted consumers. For the time being, we are advising consumers to seek refunds from their credit card companies regarding gift card purchases.”
Sunday’s office confirmed it is actively monitoring the bankruptcy case while fielding complaints from former patrons seeking reimbursement for gift cards and loyalty program balances that can no longer be redeemed.
Consumers unable to obtain refunds are encouraged to submit a complaint to the Bureau of Consumer Protection through the Attorney General’s website, www.attorneygeneral.gov, or by calling 717-787-3391.
Iron Hill Brewery, which operated multiple locations across Pennsylvania before the closures, had been a fixture in the state’s craft beer scene for decades. Its abrupt collapse marks one of the most significant restaurant industry bankruptcies in the region this year.
