HARRISBURG, PA — With protests and demonstrations planned across Pennsylvania this weekend, Governor Josh Shapiro is emphasizing the importance of peaceful actions while reaffirming the state’s commitment to protecting First Amendment rights.

“The right to peacefully protest and exercise our First Amendment is a sacred American right — and here in Pennsylvania, we will always protect it,” said Shapiro in a statement. “At the same time, we will always remain focused on keeping our communities safe and ensuring all demonstrations remain peaceful.”

Governor Shapiro has issued a clear warning against disorderly conduct, stressing, “Violence is not an answer to any political differences, destruction and chaos are unacceptable — and neither will be permitted here in Pennsylvania.”

The Shapiro Administration is working collaboratively with local officials and law enforcement, including the Parker Administration in Philadelphia, to ensure demonstrations remain both lawful and safe. Pennsylvania State Police, led by Colonel Christopher Paris, are coordinating with municipal police departments to provide adequate resources for crowd management.

Shapiro’s message also highlighted Pennsylvania’s historical legacy as a haven for diverse voices since its founding by William Penn. “Here in the Commonwealth William Penn founded on the promise that it would be welcoming to people from all walks of life, we can and must do both” — protect the right to protest and maintain public safety, he asserted.

His assurance of comprehensive measures reflects the administration’s focus on balancing constitutional rights with the obligation to safeguard residents and communities. Officials will monitor the situation closely throughout the weekend to maintain order across the Commonwealth.
