ANNVILLE, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is urging veterans across the Commonwealth to seek assistance in locating lost or missing military records, such as the DD Form 214 (DD-214), to ensure they receive the benefits and services they have earned through their military service.
The DD-214 is a critical document issued to servicemembers upon separation or retirement from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. It details essential information needed to verify military service for benefits, retirement claims, employment opportunities, and membership in veterans’ organizations. Missing this document can result in significant delays when veterans attempt to access these resources.
“Helping veterans receive the benefits they earned from serving this nation is a priority for DMVA, and that always starts with having the right paperwork to prove military service,” said Keith Graham, executive director of Veterans Affairs. “We invite veterans to reach out if they need help. Veterans are even welcome to stop by our new Lickdale Veterans’ Outreach Center in Jonestown for walk-in service. Our team of accredited veteran service officers is standing by ready to assist.”
The DMVA also assists veterans in obtaining DD Form 215 (DD-215), which is used to correct or update information on the DD-214, ensuring that discharge records are accurate and complete.
In the past fiscal year alone, the DMVA has handled more than 2,300 requests for assistance with military records, including responding to 400 phone calls. Officials stress the importance of securing these records promptly upon discharge to avoid complications later.
Veterans in need of assistance can contact the DMVA by calling 1-800-547-2838, emailing RA-REQ@pa.gov, or visiting the Lickdale Veterans’ Outreach Center at 40 Fisher Avenue, Jonestown, PA. Additional information on the Records Request Program is also available through the department.
Ensuring access to these vital documents is a crucial step in connecting veterans with the support and recognition they deserve.
