HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General has been recognized as one of the state’s “Greatest Places to Intern” by the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, highlighting its growing reputation as a premier destination for work-based learning in public service.

Announced on July 31, the recognition places the Auditor General’s office among 50 standout organizations committed to preparing students for long-term career success. The department’s Intern to Hire Program, launched in 2022, has become a cornerstone of its talent development strategy. Since its inception, 13 interns have transitioned into full-time roles within the department.

“We are extremely honored to receive this designation alongside 49 other organizations that are working to support the next generation of leaders,” said Ken Rapp, Chief of Staff, on behalf of Auditor General Timothy L. DeFoor.

The Intern to Hire Program is designed to provide students with direct exposure to state government operations, while also serving as a pipeline for future employment. Students accepted into the program are guaranteed a full-time position upon graduation, provided they meet the program’s academic and professional requirements.

Current interns hail from several Pennsylvania institutions, including the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Kutztown University, Shippensburg University, and Saint Vincent College. Their fields of study span accounting, finance, mathematics, and personal finance.

To qualify, applicants must be enrolled in or recently graduated from accredited undergraduate or graduate programs, with a minimum 2.5 GPA and a demonstrated interest in public service. Internship placements include roles in performance audits, municipal pension audits, information technology audits, and more.
