HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Dave Sunday has announced the first enforcement action under “Operation Robocall Roundup,” a national initiative aimed at curbing the surge of illegal robocalls affecting Pennsylvania and the rest of the country.

As part of a coordinated effort with the bipartisan Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force, Sunday and 50 other attorneys general issued warning letters to 37 telecommunications providers suspected of facilitating unlawful robocall traffic. These providers allegedly failed to comply with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, including requirements to register in the FCC’s Robocall Mitigation Database and respond to government traceback requests.

“Robocalls are often used by scammers to prey on the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians,” said Attorney General Sunday. “These illegal calls will not be tolerated in the Commonwealth.”

In addition to the 37 targeted providers, the task force is sending warning letters to 99 downstream telecom companies that are believed to transmit robocalls on behalf of upstream carriers. The FCC has already moved to delist seven noncompliant companies from its database, effectively blocking them from routing calls through other networks.

Launched in 2022, the Anti-Robocall Litigation Task Force was established to investigate and take legal action against entities responsible for high volumes of unlawful robocalls in the United States. Sunday’s office encourages Pennsylvanians to register with the state’s Do Not Call list and be cautious about sharing personal phone numbers, particularly when signing up for rewards programs, online surveys, or public contests.

This latest effort marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal robocall networks and hold negligent providers accountable.
