STEELTON, PA — More than 250 new jobs are expected at Dura-Bond Pipe’s Steelton facility after the company secured a multi-year, $300 million pipe supply contract with TC Energy.
The agreement, announced Friday during a visit by U.S. Senator Dave McCormick, is projected to generate $300 million in new revenue for the company and expand production at the Dauphin County plant.
Expansion at the Steelton Facility
To meet demand under the contract, Dura-Bond plans to add an additional production shift at its Steelton operation. Company officials said the expansion will increase staffing and manufacturing output.
Founded in 1960, Dura-Bond manufactures large-diameter steel line pipe used for oil and natural gas transmission infrastructure. Large-diameter line pipe refers to heavy steel pipe designed to transport oil and natural gas over long distances through pipelines.
Pennsylvania is home to the only American-owned manufacturer of this type of pipe, according to company and event officials.
Role of the Marcellus Shale Region
Dura-Bond serves projects connected to the Marcellus Shale, a major natural gas-producing region underlying parts of Pennsylvania and neighboring states.
The Marcellus Shale has become one of the largest natural gas production areas in the United States, supporting pipeline construction and related manufacturing activity.
TC Energy, which develops and operates energy infrastructure projects, said the agreement continues its longstanding partnership with Dura-Bond and supports pipeline projects serving growing energy demand.
Economic Impact
Officials said the contract will create more than 250 union jobs associated with the expanded production. The additional shift is expected to increase employment opportunities in South Central Pennsylvania’s manufacturing sector.
State and federal leaders present at the announcement described the project as a boost to domestic steel production and advanced manufacturing in the Commonwealth.
No timeline was provided for when the additional shift will begin or when hiring will be completed.
The expansion positions the Steelton facility to play a continued role in energy infrastructure projects serving national markets.
