WEST CHESTER, PAState Rep. Chris Pielli announced that nearly $1.56 million in state grants has been awarded to projects across Chester County, directing gaming and energy-related revenues toward fire protection, sewer infrastructure, flood mitigation, and emergency housing services.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through a combination of Local Share Account grants and Act 13 flood mitigation funding, programs designed to support projects deemed to be in the public interest.

The largest award, $818,576, will go to the West Chester Fire Department for the purchase of a new fire engine, replacing aging equipment and strengthening emergency response capabilities in the borough.

Safe Harbor of Chester County was awarded $350,000 to support an expansion project that will add 20 shelter units and related services, increasing capacity for individuals and families experiencing housing instability.

Infrastructure upgrades also received significant funding. West Goshen Township was awarded $250,000 for multiple pump replacements at its wastewater treatment plant, while East Bradford Township will receive $75,000 for the purchase of a new disc chipper to support public works operations.

An additional $65,000 in Act 13 flood mitigation funding was awarded to West Chester Borough for Phase 2 of its brick storm sewer rehabilitation project, aimed at improving stormwater management and reducing flood risks.

Pielli said securing funding for local priorities remains a central focus of his work, noting that the grants support first responders, critical infrastructure, equipment maintenance, and essential services for residents facing difficult circumstances. He credited collaboration with local partners, his legislative staff, and Sen. Carolyn Comitta for helping bring the funds to Chester County.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority administers both Local Share Account and Act 13 programs. Local Share Account funding is derived from revenues generated under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, which allocates casino taxes to public-interest projects across the state.
