VA Expands Mobile App to Streamline Travel Reimbursement Claims

Department of Veterans Affairs information technology

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Veterans Affairs has introduced a new feature to its Health and Benefits mobile app that allows eligible Veterans to submit and track mileage-only travel claims directly from their smartphones.

The update is designed to simplify the reimbursement process by reducing paperwork and speeding up claim approvals. The app, which has been downloaded more than three million times, now prompts users when an appointment may qualify for mileage reimbursement and allows them to confirm details with just a few taps.

Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of 30% or higher, among other criteria, are eligible for reimbursement when traveling in their own vehicles to VA medical appointments.

“VA is evolving to meet the needs of today’s Veterans, and this new feature is proof of that,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. He added that the department plans further improvements aimed at better serving Veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors.
