WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of Veterans Affairs announced that it will redirect an additional $800 million this fiscal year toward infrastructure upgrades under the Veterans Health Administration’s Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) program, bringing total NRM spending for fiscal year 2025 to $2.8 billion.
The funding will support a broad range of projects aimed at improving patient safety and service quality at VA medical facilities nationwide. Targeted upgrades include boiler and chiller replacements, electrical system improvements, elevator repairs, HVAC enhancements, and fire safety installations. The funding will also support renovations to clinical and support spaces, updates to medical equipment infrastructure, and continued work on the VA’s Electronic Health Record Modernization initiative.
“This is another step forward in our efforts to make VA work better for the Veterans, families, caregivers and survivors we are charged with serving,” said VA Secretary Doug Collins. “Improved facilities, equipment and infrastructure help improve care for Veterans, and these additional funds will enable VA to achieve that goal.”
The additional investment stems from cost savings realized through ongoing VHA reform efforts. Compared to the previous fiscal year, this year’s NRM funding represents a $500 million increase, reflecting the VA’s commitment to addressing aging infrastructure and enhancing care delivery across its national network.
