WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a tribute to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins announced the launch of the Great American Farmers Market, set to take place on the National Mall from August 3 to August 8 during National Farmers Market Week.
The event aims to celebrate the nation’s agricultural heritage by showcasing farmers and vendors from all 50 states in the heart of Washington, D.C. Secretary Rollins emphasized that agriculture remains central to the American story, calling the market “a chance to honor the heart of our nation: agriculture.”
Building on USDA’s longstanding tradition of supporting direct market access — dating back to its first farmers market in 1995 — the new national event will highlight small family farmers and rural producers, promoting fresh, locally grown food and inspiring future generations of agricultural leaders.
The market will feature a wide range of vendors, including farmers, ranchers, bakers, dairy and meat producers, fishermen, and food artisans. It will also serve as a symbolic extension of USDA’s mission, reflecting its historic designation by President Abraham Lincoln as the “People’s Department.”
The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony are scheduled for August 3, with daily programming and activities to follow throughout the week.
