WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Small Business Administration said it is awarding $1.1 million in grants to three organizations to train and support small manufacturers as part of its Empower to Grow (E2G) Program, a key piece of the agency’s Made in America Manufacturing Initiative.
The selected groups — The Ohio State University, the Bluefield West Virginia Economic Development Authority, and the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services — will deliver regional training, consulting, and technical assistance aimed at strengthening small manufacturers in critical industries.
“The SBA is focused on delivering for America’s manufacturers – the majority of whom are small businesses – by offering the capital and resources they need to rebuild America’s industrial strength,” said SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler. “With targeted grant dollars that support tools and training with broad geographic reach, we are adding to a range of efforts … that will help job creators build a future which is Made in America, by Americans.”
The E2G program offers free courses, hands-on instruction, and one-on-one consulting to help manufacturers improve operations, hiring, regulatory compliance, and access to government contracts.
Ohio State’s Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence will provide reskilling in machining, welding, 3D printing, and industrial automation to workers in six manufacturing-heavy Ohio counties.
In West Virginia and parts of Virginia, the Bluefield Economic Development Authority will lead a multi-county effort called Bluefield BUILD, aligning workforce training with employer needs through partnerships with schools, community colleges, and workforce entities.
The University of Tennessee’s Center for Industrial Services will offer workforce training and process improvement across Tennessee, prioritizing rural and distressed areas facing worker shortages and limited access to formal training.
The SBA said these grants are part of a broader effort, alongside new loan programs and an Onshoring Portal, to restore domestic manufacturing jobs and reinforce U.S. economic and national security.
