McCormick Invites New Yorkers to “Head West” as Mamdani Era Looms in NYC

Sen. McCormick to New Yorkers

WASHINGTON, D.C.Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick (R-PA) is courting disillusioned New Yorkers with a message aimed squarely at residents uneasy about the city’s political future under mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

In a video released this week, McCormick urged those frustrated with New York’s direction to consider a move to the Keystone State. “Are you worried about your future in New York? Because I have just the place for you,” McCormick said, before touting Pennsylvania’s economic momentum and traditional values.

“Pennsylvania, where America was born,” he said. “We’re rebuilding steel, innovating life sciences, leading the AI revolution, and creating tens of thousands of jobs in shipbuilding, energy, and AI infrastructure. Forget about the high taxes, the socialists, the losing football teams. The Keystone State is calling. Come on down.”

The message arrives amid growing national debate over Mamdani’s progressive platform, which includes rent freezes, universal childcare, and free public bus service. The 33-year-old Democrat, a self-described democratic socialist, is set to become New York City’s first Muslim and first South Asian mayor when he takes office on January 1, 2026.

Conservatives have positioned Mamdani as a symbol of the Democratic Party’s leftward shift. Critics, including President Donald Trump and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), argue his policies threaten to “crater” the city’s economy and weaken public safety. His support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement and outspoken criticism of Israel have further fueled controversy among national Republicans.

McCormick’s invitation — part humor, part political statement — reflects an emerging GOP narrative portraying Pennsylvania as a haven for business growth, manufacturing revival, and cultural conservatism. The senator’s remarks also signal an effort to broaden his appeal beyond state lines as Republicans look to frame Democratic strongholds like New York as cautionary tales of progressive governance.

As Mamdani prepares to assume office, McCormick’s pitch positions Pennsylvania as both a refuge and a contrast — a state, he suggests, still anchored in traditional industry, opportunity, and American identity.
