WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Internal Revenue Service Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee (ETAAC) has published its 2025 annual report, presenting 14 recommendations aimed at strengthening tax administration, enhancing security, and furthering the transition to digital transactions.
The report includes 10 recommendations directed to the IRS, with a focus on updating tax return forms to address identity theft and fraud prevention, revising the Modernized e-File reject codes for improved clarity, encouraging information sharing across federal, state, and industry platforms, and expanding initiatives to transition taxpayers to digital interactions.
“Increasing digital transactions is one of the Internal Revenue Service’s key goals,” stated IRS Commissioner Billy Long. “I appreciate the significant effort the Committee put into this report, and I look forward to reviewing its recommendations.”
ETAAC also urged Congress to prioritize tax code simplification, grant authority for the IRS to regulate uncredentialed tax return preparers, establish predictable funding for efficient taxpayer services, and continue supporting technology modernization initiatives.
The annual report reflects ETAAC’s commitment to improving tax administration while addressing evolving challenges in fraud prevention and service efficiency. Commissioner Long highlighted the importance of the recommendations in advancing the IRS’s digital-first strategy to enhance taxpayer interactions and compliance efforts.
The report underscores the need for collaboration between the IRS, Congress, and its industry partners to ensure continued innovation in tax administration and effective taxpayer support.
