WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester University’s College of Health Sciences is teaming up with Chester County Hospital to offer a free Hands-Only CPR course to the community on Saturday, October 11, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Sturzebecker Health Sciences Center (855 South New Street, West Chester).
The session will provide participants with practical instruction on performing Hands-Only CPR, using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and recognizing the early signs of heart attack through Early Heart Attack Care (EHAC) education. The event is open to both the public and the campus community.
Hands-Only CPR focuses on performing chest compressions without rescue breaths, a method that can help bystanders respond more quickly and confidently in emergencies. According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival during cardiac arrest — a condition in which the heart suddenly stops beating.
“Most cardiac arrests happen at home, and quick action from a family member or bystander can mean the difference between life and death,” said organizers. “This training empowers people to act decisively without fear or hesitation.”
While the event will not provide official CPR certification, attendees will gain valuable hands-on experience and learn how to respond in life-threatening situations until professional help arrives. A complimentary boxed lunch will be provided following the training.
The program is presented in partnership with Chester County Hospital and the Mobile CPR Project Philadelphia.
