WEST CHESTER, PA — Penn Medicine Chester County Hospital (CCH) is celebrating a century of delivering babies, marking 100 years since the hospital’s first birth on September 29, 1925. What began as a modest maternity service has evolved into a modern, full-service maternal health program delivering more than 3,000 babies each year.

To commemorate the milestone, CCH recognized the first 100 newborns of the hospital’s second century of maternal care with special keepsake onesies and hosted staff celebrations honoring the nurses, physicians, and specialists who continue the institution’s legacy of compassionate, family-centered care.

“I am incredibly proud to celebrate this monumental milestone at Chester County Hospital—the 100th anniversary of delivering babies,” said Katie Luzi Costantini, Director of Maternal Child Services. “This milestone is a time to reflect on the outstanding and remarkable care provided over the past century while looking forward to a bright future of supporting patients and their families during some of life’s most pivotal moments.”

Over the past century, CCH has expanded and modernized its services to meet the needs of the Chester County community. In 2014, the hospital opened the Mother Baby Pavilion, featuring private rooms, in-room dining, and family accommodations. The hospital also operates a 14-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, inpatient lactation services, and prenatal education programs. These offerings earned CCH the Baby-Friendly Designation in 2019, with redesignation achieved in 2025.

In recent years, the Maternal Child Health team has also implemented a program to reduce disparities in postpartum outcomes among Hispanic patients, focusing on improving communication, access, and cultural understanding. The initiative earned recognition from the Health Care Improvement Foundation’s 2023 Excellence in Health Care Awards.
