Gaming Funds Deliver $1.35M Boost to Chester County Health, Roads, Parks

Grants

PAOLI, PAState Rep. Melissa Shusterman announced Thursday that $1.35 million in state grants has been awarded to a slate of healthcare, infrastructure, and recreation projects across her Chester County legislative district, channeling gaming revenues into local community improvements.

The funding comes through Pennsylvania’s Local Share Account Program, which distributes proceeds generated under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The program is administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and is designed to support projects deemed to be in the public interest.

The largest single allocation will go to recreation, with $350,000 awarded to Tredyffrin Township for Americans with Disabilities Act improvements and other upgrades at Friendship Park. Another $350,000 was directed to Schuylkill Township for renovations to its municipal complex.

Healthcare projects will receive $100,000, with Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital slated to use the funds for ceiling-mounted patient lifts intended to improve patient safety and staff working conditions.

Several infrastructure projects across the district were also funded. Royer-Greaves School for the Blind will receive $200,000 for sustainable energy improvements, while the Valley Forge Sewer Authority was awarded $200,000 to secure pump replacements for the sewer system in Schuylkill Township. An additional $150,000 will go to Willistown Township for needed sewer system replacements.

Shusterman said the funding reflects an effort to return state resources to local communities and address a range of practical needs, from aging infrastructure to healthcare equipment and accessible public spaces. She said the grants demonstrate how gaming revenues can be reinvested to support residents and improve quality of life throughout the district.
