WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department cited multiple food establishments on February 19 for violations ranging from improper food handling to pest infestations, including live cockroaches observed at a Lionville restaurant.
Inspections covered facilities in Kennett Square, West Chester and Lionville. Health officials note inspections reflect conditions observed at the time of the visit.
Umami Asian Bistro Inc., 150 Eagleview Blvd., Lionville, was cited for numerous violations, including the presence of live and dead cockroaches throughout the kitchen. Inspectors reported roaches inside electrical outlets, in cold-holding units and on floors and walls. The facility was directed to thoroughly clean and continue working with a licensed pest control company. Inspectors also cited a lack of soap and paper towels at hand sinks and improper dishwashing practices.
Hearth Kitchen, 847 E. Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, received violations for improper glove use when handling raw meat and ready-to-eat produce, missing shellstock identification tags and food temperature control issues. Several items, including dented cans and improperly stored food, were corrected during the inspection.
Hershey’s Mill Golf Club, 401 Chandler Drive, West Chester, was cited for raw beef stored above ready-to-eat dairy products, expired sanitizer test strips and food stored directly on the floor. Inspectors also reported unclean food contact surfaces at bar stations and a clogged soda gun drain.
Kendal at Longwood, 1109 E. Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, was cited after rice and quinoa were held at 115 degrees in a hot holding unit, below the required 135 degrees. The food was discarded. Inspectors also cited hot water issues at a hand sink and damaged floor tiles in the main kitchen.
