Chester County Reports Food Safety Violations at Oxford Sites

Food Safety Inspections

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department reported multiple food safety violations following inspections conducted Thursday, March 19, at two food establishments in Oxford and provided guidance for residents to report concerns.

The department said inspections represent conditions at a specific point in time and may not reflect long-term compliance.

At D & L Meats at the Oxford Farmers’ Market, inspectors cited violations including failure to properly date-mark ready-to-eat foods stored in a walk-in cooler.

Inspectors also reported missing soap and paper towel dispensers at handwashing sinks, a malfunctioning sink drain, and an ice machine lacking a required air gap.

Additional issues included unlabeled cleaning chemicals near food preparation areas and structural deficiencies such as exposed walls and missing splash guards.

The facility was directed to provide proof of enrollment in a food safety manager course by April 2 and obtain certification by June 18.

At Oxford Barbecue, inspectors observed improper food holding temperatures, including mashed potatoes held at 129 degrees Fahrenheit, below the required 135-degree standard.

Food utensils were stored in water below required temperatures, and a refrigerator was operating at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, exceeding the 41-degree maximum for temperature-controlled foods.

Inspectors said food items were reheated or relocated during the inspection and directed the facility not to use the refrigerator until repairs are made.
