WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County Health Department inspections conducted Tuesday identified multiple food safety and sanitation violations at three food establishments, while several others were found in compliance.
At Grillzup, 775 S. Church St., West Chester, inspectors cited issues including improper food storage, inadequate hot water for warewashing, and employee hygiene lapses.
Inspectors observed rice stored uncovered, raw animal foods placed above ready-to-eat items, and an employee handling a phone before preparing food without changing gloves.
The facility’s manual warewashing sink registered a water temperature of 90°F, below the required 110°F, and the hot water heater was not supplying sufficient hot water.
Additional violations included unclean wiping cloths, use of a cup instead of a handled scoop, infrequent cleaning of utensils, and equipment issues including a leaking steam table and blocked handwashing sink.
At Margie’s Cuisine LLC, 880 Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford, inspectors cited the use of a residential Insta-Pot for commercial cooking and a malfunctioning sanitizer dispenser.
Cooked pasta was not date-marked, and inspectors instructed staff to ensure proper labeling and sanitizer concentrations.
At X-Golf, 12 N. Pottstown Pike, Chester Springs, violations included an unclean ice machine with black residue, an expired sanitizer test kit, and obstructed handwashing sinks.
Inspectors also noted the absence of a current certified food manager on record and discrepancies between approved seating capacity and observed occupancy, prompting a requirement for sewage system reevaluation.
Other violations at X-Golf included lack of soap at a handwashing sink and unclean food-contact and non-food-contact surfaces throughout the facility.
The health department noted that inspections represent conditions observed at the time of the visit and may not reflect long-term compliance.
The following establishments were found to be in compliance:
- Asian Café, Phoenixville;
- Avon Grove Intermediate School, West Grove;
- Chartwells at OJR Middle School, Pottstown;
- Creekside Coffee Roasting Co., Landenberg;
- Capriotti’s, West Chester;
- Penn London Elementary School, West Grove;
