WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department reported multiple food safety violations following inspections conducted Monday at two food establishments, according to official inspection records.
At Collective Coffee & Bakery in Glenmoore, inspectors found cold-held foods, including cheese and quiche, stored between 43 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit, above the required 41 degrees or below. The items were discarded, and inspectors advised against overfilling prep units, noting that food above the fill line may not remain properly chilled.
Inspectors also cited the facility for displaying a certified food manager certificate tied to a former employee. The department said certificates for past employees must be removed and replaced with one for a currently employed, certified manager.
A separate violation involved a sanitizing solution at the three-bay sink, where no measurable concentration of quaternary ammonium was detected. The solution was replaced during the inspection, reaching 400 parts per million, within the required 200 to 400 ppm range. Inspectors said sanitizer levels must be tested daily.
Additionally, a leaking mop sink faucet was observed and must be repaired.
At La Tartine LLC in West Chester, inspectors cited improper labeling of prepackaged foods, including baked goods and prepared items offered in self-service areas. Labels were missing required information such as ingredients, allergen declarations, and net weight.
The facility was also cited for failing to publicly display required documentation, including its license to operate, certified food manager certificate, and most recent inspection report or a notice indicating availability upon request.
Inspectors further noted that drying racks on the drainboards of the three-bay sink required cleaning.
Several facilities were found to be in compliance, including
- Chartwells at French Creek Elementary School in Pottstown;
- Compass at Takeda in Exton;
- New Eagle Elementary School in Wayne;
- Panaderia Lara in Kennett Square;
- Pocopson Elementary School in West Chester;
- ShopRite of West Chester;
- St. James Episcopal Church in Downingtown;
- The Phoenix Center in Phoenixville;
- Tredyffrin-Easttown Middle School in Berwyn; and
- Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company in Valley Forge.
The health department stated that inspections represent conditions observed at the time of review and may not reflect long-term compliance. Residents who observe unsanitary conditions or believe an issue requires investigation can submit a complaint at https://www.chesco.org/5843 or call 610-344-6225 if they became ill after eating at a food establishment.
