WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department reported multiple food safety violations following inspections conducted Thursday at several licensed food facilities across the county.

Health officials said inspection reports represent a snapshot of conditions at the time of the visit and may not reflect a facility’s overall long-term sanitation or food safety practices.

Carniceria I Taqueria Guadalajara, 520 S. Union St., Kennett Square, was cited for several violations, including rice held at 109°F in a steam table that had not been reheated to the required 165°F before service. Inspectors said the rice was reheated in a microwave to 169°F during the inspection.

Additional issues at the Kennett Square restaurant included pooling water in a bain-marie unit, unclean hood filters and surfaces, incomplete dishwashing procedures in a meat room area, and the need to install coving under a sink, according to inspector comments.

Desi Swaad Inc., 10 Riverside Drive, Spring City, received numerous violations, including food handlers failing to wash hands between tasks and glove changes, and inspectors determining the person in charge lacked adequate knowledge of food safety requirements.

Inspectors also reported improper food storage, including baking powder stored near chemicals, raw eggs placed above ready-to-eat foods, and prepackaged foods in a retail cooler lacking required labeling information.

Other violations at the Spring City facility included improperly cooled cauliflower, food employees not wearing hair restraints, wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer solution, and food debris on equipment and preparation surfaces.

Additional concerns cited included unlabeled chemical spray bottles, unclean floors and walls in the kitchen, open food containers stored improperly, and the absence of a temperature indicator for a high-temperature dishwasher.

The Polish American Citizens Club, 15 Strode Ave., Coatesville, was cited for several equipment and facility violations, including the absence of food thermometers, the use of a residential crock pot for food preparation, and an expired sanitizer test kit.

Inspectors also reported the bar area lacked a required handwashing sink and said the faucet at the kitchen’s three-compartment sink was not long enough to fill all basins properly.

Triple Fresh Market, 801 Doe Run Road, Coatesville, received violations related to equipment and food handling practices, including unlabeled squeeze bottles, cutting boards that were heavily scored, and shelves near a fryer that were not food-grade.

Inspectors also reported rusting shelves in a walk-in refrigerator, the absence of a consumer advisory for undercooked eggs and hamburgers served upon request, and the need to clean cooking equipment and ventilation areas.

Several establishments were listed as in compliance following inspections conducted Thursday, including

  • Cutter and Cannon LLC in West Chester,
  • Kennett Chicken in Kennett Square,
  • Ludwig’s Corner Fire Company in Glenmoore, and
  • Mister Softee/CCHD #466 in Philadelphia.

Residents who observe unsanitary conditions at a food facility can submit a complaint through the Chester County Health Department’s Environmental Health Complaint system at https://www.chesco.org/5843. Officials advise anyone who becomes ill after eating at a food establishment to call 610-344-6225 instead of submitting the online form.
