WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Health Department reported multiple food safety violations following inspections conducted March 9 and March 10 at restaurants, markets, and food facilities across the county.
Health officials said inspections represent a snapshot of conditions at the time of the visit and may not reflect long-term sanitation or food safety practices.
At Bhavani Food Market in Exton, inspectors observed dented canned goods offered for sale and expired food products on shelves.
Inspectors also found frozen seafood without proper packaging or labeling and cited the facility for preparing food without approval or an approved food preparation area.
At Bravissimo Pizza & Pasta in Berwyn, inspectors reported temperature-controlled foods stored at 55°F in a cold well rather than the required 41°F or below.
Other violations included raw eggs stored above ready-to-eat foods, unlabeled chemical containers, and worn food utensils.
At Caln Pizza & Pasta in Downingtown, inspectors observed cooked pasta and chicken cooling at room temperature and a hot-held meatball dish below the required 135°F temperature.
Officials also cited the facility for unlabeled food containers, improper utensil storage, and a lack of thermometers to verify food temperatures.
A follow-up inspection at Cheyney Grille in Cheyney found a walk-in refrigerator operating at 49°F rather than the required 41°F or lower.
Health officials ordered the disposal of temperature-sensitive foods and directed the facility to repair the refrigeration unit.
At King’s Garden Restaurant in West Chester, inspectors cited improper food cooling procedures, unlabeled cooking oil, and unsanitary food-contact equipment.
The facility was also cited for inadequate staff knowledge of food safety practices and improper ventilation for cooking equipment.
At Bonchon in West Chester, inspectors found raw chicken stored above ready-to-eat foods and fried chicken held at 97°F rather than the required 135°F or higher.
Additional violations included improper sanitizer levels in the dishwashing machine, reuse of single-use food containers, and temperature issues in a walk-in refrigerator.
At Sadsburyville Hotel in Sadsburyville, inspectors cited raw chicken stored above cooked foods, unlabeled food containers, and missing soap and paper towels at a handwashing sink.
Inspectors also ordered cleaning of kitchen equipment and floors and required rusted refrigerator shelves to be replaced.
At Twelves Grill & Cafe in West Grove, inspectors reported soups placed in hot holding units without being reheated to a uniform temperature and foods lacking required date labels.
Other violations included an employee drying hands with a cleaning cloth and an open beverage stored on a food preparation counter.
At West Chester Hot Chicken, inspectors cited raw meats stored above ready-to-eat foods, unlabeled sauce containers, and cooked food left at room temperature.
Inspectors also found an ice machine with biofilm buildup and improper food labeling for packaged desserts.
County health officials said residents who observe unsanitary conditions at food establishments can file a complaint through the Chester County Environmental Health program or contact the department directly.
