BRYN MAWR, PA — Harcum College has appointed Zakarias “Zak” Thornton as its next chief financial officer, naming him a key member of the President’s Cabinet with broad oversight of business services, financial operations and strategic planning. His tenure begins Nov. 17, marking a pivotal leadership move as the college positions itself for long-term fiscal strength.
Thornton arrives with more than a decade of experience in higher-education finance, most recently serving as assistant vice president of finance at LaSalle University. His background includes strategic budgeting, capital planning, revenue optimization, and oversight of complex financial systems — areas Harcum identifies as central to advancing its institutional goals.
At LaSalle, Thornton led financial operations and implemented strategies aimed at strengthening net tuition revenue, refining discount models and supporting major administrative decisions through data-driven analysis. Harcum officials highlighted his expertise in risk management, audit oversight and operational efficiency as key assets for the college’s evolving financial landscape.
“Zak brings an essential mix of experience, analytical discipline and forward-thinking leadership that will help guide Harcum through its next phase of growth,” the college noted in its announcement.
Thornton holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Drexel University. He resides in Blue Bell with his wife, Ali, their three children — Jack, Conor and Kellen — and the family dog, Sawyer. Outside the office, he is an avid sports fan and longtime football coach who enjoys spending time outdoors and attending sporting events.
Thornton will oversee business services, the Controller’s Office and related financial functions as Harcum continues efforts to strengthen operations and plan for future enrollment and program expansion.
